alevi peña jiménez
composer
Alevi Peña Jiménez was born in La Serena, Chile. He began his music studies at the age of ten, in the "Jorge Peña Hen" School of Music in La Serena, with the bassoon as his principal instrument. His first compositions date from that period. Then he moved to Santiago de Chile in order to continue his formal studies of music and bassoon at the Universitiy of Chile, where he began to concentrate in contemporary music. In 2006 he premiered in Chile the "Sequenza XII per fagotto solo" by Luciano Berio, later devoting himself to the task of creating new repertoire for the bassoon by chilean composers. Paralell to his player career is his activity as composer. In 2006 he attended to a master class of composition dictated by Emmanuel Nunes, and now he is almost absolutely dedicated to composition, with works premiered in Chile and France. At this time (2008) he is working on new solo pieces for contrabass, oboe, and a piece dedicated to Inevidenza Ensemble.
