Jóhannes Andreasen was born in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands. He had regular piano lessons from the age of nine. He studied at ”Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst” in Vienna. He continued his education studying for a period at the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland and with Peter Feuchtwanger in London. He has attended courses with various musicians e.g. Irena Zaritskaya and Edith Picht-Axenfeld. He works as a teacher for the Faroese Music School and as a freelance musician. An active chamber musician, he has performed widely in duo partnership, both with some of his local colleagues and with internationally known soloists. He is a co-founder of the ensemble Aldubáran. In the role of a chamber musician, he has appeared on CDs from the labels Extraplatte and Tutl among others. Jóhannes Andreasen has been a frequent soloist with the Faroese Symphony Orchestra. During the first Faroese Art Festival he premiered a new Piano Concerto by Tróndur Bogason with the Icelandic ensemble Caput. Although the core of his repertoire is classical, he has premièred a number of contemporary soloworks by e.g. Sunleif Rasmussen and Atli Heimir Sveinsson (both of which are recipients of the prestigious Nordic Council Music Prize).
