Born in Mexico City, Santiago Gutiérrez Bolio started his studies in composition and performance of classical guitar at CIEM (Centro de Investigación y Estudios Musicales). In 2001 he moved to San Francisco, California where he graduated as a Bachelor of Music in 2004, and a Master of Music in 2006. Today he is part of the Soloist Class at Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium in Copenhagen. His compositions come from a world of mixture and synthesis. His musical influences stem from a wide variety of styles including rock, Indian tradition, Northern and Central African music, and the Classical repertoire. He has had the opportunity of working extensively with composers such as Dusan Bogdanovic, Terry Riley, Conrad Susa, David Conte, Alejandro Velazco, Victor Rasgado, and Nuccio D’Angelo. Santiago’s work has been performed at different stages in Mexico, United States and Europe, including Carnegie Recital Hall where he played his own composition Danza Bruja for two guitars, Old First Church Series in San Francisco CA, Centro Cultural Helenico in Mexico City, and Sounds of Mexico Festival in Copenhagen, Denmark.
